PORTLAND, Maine — A Pennsylvania wow charged in U. S. Center Court with selling to a Maine buyer fake cell phone covers designed to look like Otterbox iPhone 5s commuter-brand covers was imprisoned Tuesday in the Keystone State.
Developed Kurnik, 25, of York, Pd is charged with one count up each of conspiracy to traffic across counterfeit goods and trafficking across counterfeit goods.
Kurnick was indicted July 8 by a federal haut jury in Portland. The indictment was sealed until his jailed.
The circumstances surrounding his arrest weren't available early Tuesday afternoon.
Selection his first appearance Tuesday across federal court in Harrisburg, Pd and was released on unsecured dispositions, according to information posted on the mandement system's electronic case filing systems. His arraignment date in national court in Maine had not been placed as of late Tuesday afternoon.
Kurnik presumably obtained counterfeit iPhone Otterbox commuter cell phone legal cases between June 2013 and June 2014 from China and sold them how to customers. Each cover bore a good solid counterfeit mark "that was extensively indistinguishable from the [Otterbox] registered trademark, " the indictment said.
On Dec. 11, 2013, Kurnik allegedly shipped 130 cellular phone cases to an unnamed person in a undisclosed address in South Portland. He possessed 6, 700 replica covers on Feb. 5, 2014, in Manchester, Pennsylvania, according to the indictment.
If convicted, Kurnik faces more than 10 years in federal prison having a $2 million fine.
OtterBox launched in 1998 in Fort Collins, Colorado state, according to information posted on its site. The company sells protective cases towards cell phones, tablets and other handheld solutions.
